[feedback request] Workbench Overview explorations

Hey everyone! I’m Zack, a product designer on Workbench.

I’m currently exploring how we could improve the Overview tab in Workbench and would love to share some explorations and get your feedback.

A few key changes:

  • Updated groupings of content
  • Updated data visualizations
  • Updated ordering and content in right column

I would love your thoughts on:

  • What value, if any, does existing Overview tab provide?
  • What information on the proposed Overview tab is the most helpful? What information is the least helpful?
  • What information, if any, is missing from the proposed Overview tab?
  • Thinking about when you start a new Workbench session, what are you typically trying to do? What information or actions would help kick start that session?

Proposed overview tab

Performance
The performance section groups together data visualizations with a focus on API request successes/errors, as well as webhook response times. If you’re familiar with the previous Developer Dashboard, this data will be familiar to you.

Note: the line charts shown here are just placeholder and the data may not actually be presented in this format

API usage and keys
Below performance, there’s a high level overview of requests and failures for each API and SDK version you’re using, and quick access to your API keys.

Jobs to be done and testing/debugging tools
We’re exploring bringing more task-based sections to the Overview that might have a more bespoke treatment or experience. Ideally, you could open Workbench and pick up right where you left off, whether you’re debugging webhooks or starting a new integration.

Full disclosure, these sections are the least developed, both conceptually and visually, and are most likely to change.

Right column
The right column prioritizes important and timely information like critical alerts or insights, while also surfacing recently created objects, recently viewed docs, and quick links to relevant resources like the API ref or quick start guides.

Thanks again for being part of this community and all the feedback you’ve already given us–it’s been great to work with y’all on shaping the experience!
