Do sandboxes require verification (by design)?

I created a Sandbox a few months ago and we’ve started receiving alerts that verification is required:

[Test] [Action required] To avoid paused payments and payouts, provide a valid business representative for sandbox

Hello,
We’re reaching out because we need you to provide a valid business representative for sandbox.

Please complete these tasks as soon as possible because:

  • Payouts will be paused on January 4, 2025
  • Payments will be paused on January 18, 2025

As this is a sandbox, our expectation is that verification is not required and so this request for verification seems like a bug (especially as it talks about payouts being paused, when a sandbox does not have payouts). Regardless, to stop the alerts we’ve tried to verify anyway, but each time, we’re asked for more information. Our production Stripe instance is fully verified and has been for many years.

We’ve reached out to support to seek clarity but the answers we’ve received do not seem to acknowledge that our issue is with a sandbox (not our production instance) and encourage us to continue trying to verify. The lack of clarity from support is understandable because it’s a beta feature so I am here to ask if there’s any additional insight available from the source during beta.

Do sandboxes require verification? Can we ignore these alerts? Do we need to keep trying to verify? What happens to our sandbox if we don’t verify?

During investigation, I noticed that there are “fake”[1] details automatically included by Stripe in the business representative section which further leads me to believe that we shouldn’t be verifying the sandbox.

Thank you

[1] I don’t have context around the “fake” details but my uninformed and unsolicited opinion is that “real” domains shouldn’t be used for this as anyone could register dynazzy.biz (which I guess was generated by Faker). Either a test domain that can never resolve (e.g: examplestripebusiness.test) or a real domain (which you register) like examplestripebusines.com would be a better choice.
